Good afternoon members and guests, ladies and gentlemen to our 13th Annual General Meeting. As you are all aware the Chamber’s vision of ‘Commerce with no barriers’

As you are all aware the Chamber’s vision of ‘Commerce with no barriers’ is strengthens with our objectives that are founded on 4 pillars, which are: promote, enhance, facilitate and participate. These objectives were relevant 13 years ago when the Chamber was established and remain relevant now. These four pillars will be the Chamber’s means to actively engage at a local and global level as we overcome the economic, social, environmental, technological and political challenges the Asia Pacific nations are facing now and in the future. The Chamber will remain committed to be an active advocate, to be an active partner and to be an active business organisation focus in achieving its objectives. I would like to reiterate these as follows:

  • To promote and encourage Australian and Filipino professionals and business enterprises in Australia.
  • To enhance and encourage business relationships between Australia and Asian countries, particularly the Philippines.
  • To facilitate the sharing of information and expertise that will assist newly established businesses and/or those intending to start up a business.
  • To actively participate and contribute to Australia’s economic growth by assisting our members’ international business ventures and partnerships.

Our Chamber’s activities this year were based on these objectives.

The Chamber continues to be an active member of the Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Lord Mayor’s Multicultural Business Round Table by engaging with 25 multicultural business chambers and councils and participating in organising the Annual Lord Mayor’s Multicultural Business Awards and Gala Night. The Chamber is also active in raising funds and supporting the Lord Mayor’s Multicultural Scholarship Program in the past 7 years.

The dedication and commitment by the Chamber’s Board of Directors are exemplary despite their business, professional and life demands, to ensure our Chamber runs smoothly on a day to day, week to week and month to month basis. The spirit of volunteerism, teamwork and “giving back” to the countries (Australia and the Philippines) is present and clearly demonstrated amongst us.

In the year ahead, with the help of the newly elected Board of Directors and members, our Chamber plans to:

  • Conduct quarterly business networking and information sessions/business forums;
  • Hold a business and trade mission to the Philippines in Q3, 2014 in conjunction with Brisbane South West Chamber of Commerce, Trade Investment Queensland and Austrade
  • Hold the ‘Mabuhay Festival’ in Q4, 2014 (September)

Most importantly, we will continue to be active in linking our members to our very expansive and valuable business and community network throughout Australia and the Philippine at business, academic and government levels.
